The Youth Exchange project "Protect Your Future with Disaster Awareness" (Project No: 2023-3-LV02-KA152-YOU-000178766), organized by the applicant organization Black Wood Environmental Biedrība, successfully took place in Riga, Latvia, between 12.05.2024 and 19.05.2024. This initiative brought together dynamic participants from Spain, Turkey, Hungary, Italy, and Romania to engage in meaningful intercultural dialogue and capacity building. By utilizing non-formal learning methodologies, the project established a solid foundation for international cooperation, equipping young people with essential tools for community development, personal growth, and disaster preparedness.

A dedicated Youthpass workshop centered on self-assessment and guided facilitation to help participants systematically map their personal and professional growth. Under the mentorship of the activity leader, individuals engaged in deep self-reflection, evaluating the specific skills, soft competences, and practical knowledge they developed throughout the mobility. This reflective process concluded with an open peer-sharing session where participants exchanged insights about their unique learning journeys. This collaborative dialogue fostered a supportive environment, enhancing mutual understanding, improving peer learning, and helping the youth articulate their educational achievements for future career pathways.

Cultural awareness and experiential learning were significantly expanded through an immersive city tour designed to connect participants with historical heritage and architectural evolution. The youth explored majestic castles, ancient fortresses, and monumental cathedrals, actively examining the distinct structural details of Renaissance and Baroque architecture. Walking along historic ramparts provided panoramic views and deep context regarding local defense heritages, while exploring modern waterfront spaces and local markets offered an authentic glimpse into contemporary social life. This firsthand interaction stimulated intellectual curiosity, facilitated social learning, and enhanced global awareness among the multinational group.

A rigorous general evaluation framework combined digital tools and face-to-face feedback sessions to measure overall satisfaction and project efficiency. Utilizing a comprehensive Typeform survey distributed via communication networks, participants performed qualitative self-assessments regarding their participation levels, the clarity of training resources, and the utility of the learning materials. This data-driven approach allowed individuals to express their perspectives through open-ended questions, fostering critical thinking and active engagement. The subsequent face-to-face debriefing circles allowed the group to constructively address challenges and brainstorm strategic recommendations for future European youth initiatives.

The official closure of the project synthesized the collective achievements, insights, and reported data compiled by the partner organizations. By consolidating the outcomes of self-reflection, cultural immersion, and democratic evaluation, the initiative successfully met its core objectives of fostering civic responsibility and international solidarity. The comprehensive documentation of learning outcomes ensured that the competencies gained in teamwork, disaster literacy, and cross-cultural communication remain sustainable. Ultimately, this structured learning loop empowered the young participants to return to their home countries as active, well-rounded citizens prepared to advocate for environmental resilience and transnational cooperation.
