Black Wood Environmental Biedrība Participated as a Partner in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "If You Know Nature, You Will Know Your Future!"

Black Wood Environmental Biedrība proudly took part as a partner organization in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange "If You Know Nature, You Will Know Your Future!" (Project No: 2023-1-TR01-KA152-YOU-000142270), coordinated by Ekolojik Sistem ve Çevre Koruyucuları Topluluğu and implemented in İzmir, Türkiye. The project brought together young participants and youth organizations from Türkiye, Spain, Romania, Latvia, Poland, and Bulgaria to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage sustainable lifestyles through intercultural learning and non-formal education.

The project addressed one of today's most pressing environmental challenges: the widespread use of single-use plastic products and their devastating impact on ecosystems. Participants explored how industrialization and unsustainable consumption habits have accelerated environmental degradation, with a particular focus on plastic pollution, the destruction of natural habitats, and the long-term consequences for biodiversity and human health. Through discussions, workshops, and collaborative learning activities, young people examined practical ways to reduce plastic waste and promote environmentally responsible behaviors in their local communities.

A key objective of the project was to encourage the replacement of disposable plastic bags with sustainable alternatives such as reusable cloth bags while promoting responsible consumption. The exchange also highlighted the importance of protecting seas, rivers, and lakes, raising public awareness about water pollution, and inspiring collective action for the preservation of natural resources. Participants discussed how governments, civil society organizations, and individuals can cooperate to develop innovative and environmentally friendly solutions that contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.

Beyond its environmental dimension, the project strengthened international cooperation, intercultural dialogue, and youth participation. By bringing together young people from different cultural backgrounds, the exchange promoted mutual understanding, solidarity, inclusion, and active citizenship while combating prejudice and discrimination. It also emphasized the value of volunteering, non-formal education, and Erasmus+ opportunities in empowering young people to become responsible environmental advocates and active contributors to sustainable development.

As a partner organization, Black Wood Environmental Biedrība was pleased to contribute to this meaningful initiative, supporting the exchange of knowledge, good practices, and innovative ideas among participants. The project reinforced the belief that protecting nature begins with individual responsibility and collective action. By increasing environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable habits, "If You Know Nature, You Will Know Your Future!" has contributed to building a more environmentally conscious generation that understands the importance of preserving natural resources and safeguarding the planet for future generations.
